The Human Nervous System

The nervous system enables humans to react to their surroundings and coordinate their behaviour.

Name the two components of the Central Nervous System.

What is The Human Nervous System?

"The nervous system is an organ system containing a network of specialized cells called neurones that coordinate actions and transmit signals between different parts of the body."

Question 1

Which answer best completes the statement? ____ involves giving a mother FSH and LH to stimulate eggs

Question 2

Choose the correct option to complete the statement. ____ is when blood vessels narrow to keep heat in

Question 3

Which answer best completes the statement? FSH causes an egg to ____ in the ovary

Question 4

Which answer best completes the statement? ____ is a waste product formed from the breakdown of proteins

Nervous Components

Central Nervous System (CNS): Comprises the brain and spinal cord.

Sensory neurones carry electrical impulses from receptors to the CNS.

Motor neurones carry electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors (muscles/glands).

Information from receptors passes along neurones as electrical impulses.

Exam Tip

Always distinguish between a receptor (detects change) and an effector (carries out response).
