Investigating Rate Factors
Controlling the factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis is a key skill for both exams and industry.
How can you control the temperature when investigating light intensity?
What is Investigating Rate Factors?
"The rate of photosynthesis practical investigates how limiting factors like light, CO2, and temperature affect the speed of the reaction."
Which term correctly completes this GCSE Biology equation or calculation statement? A ____ is the total of results ÷ number of results
Which term correctly completes this GCSE Biology equation or calculation statement? ____ change = (final − initial) ÷ initial × 100
Which option correctly completes the statement? In photosynthesis practicals, moving a lamp ____ increases light intensity
Which answer best completes the statement? Control variables are kept the same for a ____ test
Rate of Photosynthesis
Variables: Light intensity, CO2 concentration, and temperature can all be varied.
Control: When one factor is increased the rate rises, until another factor becomes limiting.
Practical: Often uses pondweed to count bubbles or a gas syringe to measure volume.
Measurement: Rate is usually expressed as volume of gas divided by time.
To control temperature in a light practical, use a LED bulb (which stays cool) or a heat shield.
