Oxygen Debt and Recovery

After vigorous exercise, you keep breathing hard to pay back the "oxygen debt".

What is oxygen debt?

What is Oxygen Debt and Recovery?

"Oxygen debt is the amount of extra oxygen required by the body after exercise to facilitate the removal of lactic acid from the system."

Question 1

Which word equation correctly represents photosynthesis?

Question 2

On a very hot, bright day, the rate of photosynthesis might actually slow down. Why?

Question 3

Which change would usually increase the rate of photosynthesis if light intensity is the limiting factor?

Question 4

In which part of a plant cell does photosynthesis take place?

Paying Back Oxygen

Oxygen debt is the extra oxygen needed after exercise to react with lactic acid.

Lactic acid is transported from muscles to the liver.

In the liver, it is converted back into glucose using oxygen.

Exam Tip
