Biology Topic Practice

Plant Tissues & Organs

Like animals, plants have tissues and organs designed for specific functions like transport and photosynthesis.

Can you identify the layers of a leaf?

What is Plant Tissues & Organs?

"Plant tissues, such as epidermal and mesophyll tissues, are collections of specialized cells that work together to perform functions like photosynthesis."

Question 1

Which leaf tissue contains many chloroplasts and is the main site of photosynthesis?

Question 2

What do stomata do?

Question 3

What is the main function of phloem tissue?

Leaf Structure

Upper epidermis: Waxy cuticle reduces water loss. Palisades mesophyll: High chlorophyll for photosynthesis.

Spongy mesophyll: Large air spaces for gas diffusion. Stomata: Pores for gas exchange controlled by guard cells.

Exam Tip

Stomata are mostly found on the bottom of the leaf to reduce water loss by evaporation.
